About the Academy

At the Thiem Academy Burgenland, we believe that talent should have no barriers. Whether you dream of competing professionally or simply want to reach your full potential, our mission is to help you grow as an athlete, student, and person.

Founded by Dominic Thiem and led by Wolfgang Thiem, the academy offers elite tennis coaching, athletic conditioning, mental training, and academic support – all in the inspiring setting of Oberpullendorf, Austria.

„Unsere Spitzensportlerinnen und Spitzensportler sind wichtige Botschafter unseres Bundeslandes. Sie repräsentieren unsere Region auf nationaler und internationaler Ebene und tragen dabei wesentlich zur Positionierung des Burgenlandes als Sportland bei. Auch darum ist die Förderung des Spitzensports ein wichtiger Schwerpunkt der burgenländischen Landesregierung. In den letzten Jahren haben wir eine Sportstrategie entwickelt, die auch die Errichtung von Leistungszentren beinhaltet. Die Tennisakademie Burgenland ist ein Pilotprojekt und zeigt, wie erfolgreich die Zusammenarbeit zwischen dem Land, der Landesholding Burgenland, der Sport Burgenland GmbH und dem BTV sein kann. Ich bin stolz darauf, dass wir mit der Tennisakademie ein Projekt geschaffen haben, das talentierten und motivierten Jugendlichen die Möglichkeit bietet, ihre sportlichen und persönlichen Fähigkeiten zu entwickeln und damit einen Beitrag zur Zukunft des Spitzensports in unserem Land leistet.

2025

In 2025, Dominic begins a new chapter in his life. With passion and dedication, he focuses on his heart projects, Thiem Energy and the Thiem Academy Burgenland. His mission is to make our planet more sustainable, support others, and guide young tennis players on their journey to the top. Along the way, he seeks to pass on not only athletic skills but also important values such as sustainability and humility. With this mission, Dominic continues to write his success story beyond the tennis court.

2024

In 2024, Dominic makes the decision to end his career. He plays ten more tournaments, including the US Open, which is particularly close to his heart. He plays his last match in a sold-out Vienna Stadthalle in front of almost 9,000 enthusiastic fans. An emotional and worthy farewell.

2021-2023

2021-2023 Dominic struggles with a serious wrist injury, which he suffers at the ATP tournament in Mallorca. Despite all his efforts, his wrist never fully returns to its former strength.

September 2020

September 14, 2020: Dominic gets another chance. He reaches the final of the US Open, where he plays his close friend Alexander Zverev. Zverev starts strongly and quickly leads 2:0 in sets. But Dominic fights back and wins 7:6 in the fifth set after a nerve-wracking match, crowning him US Open champion and fulfilling his biggest dream. As he writes in his book “My Greatest Moments”, he considers his career complete with this title.

2019

Dominic sets new highlights in 2019. In addition to reaching another final at the French Open, where he is once again defeated by Nadal, he wins his biggest title to date: the ATP 1000 tournament in Indian Wells, also known as the “fifth Grand Slam”. In the final, he defeats Roger Federer, one of the greatest players of all time.

2018

In 2018, Dominic is already one of the best tennis players in the world. This year, he celebrates his greatest success to date: he reaches the final of Roland Garros, the most prestigious clay court tournament in the world. Only Rafael Nadal, the “King of Clay”, can stop him.

2015

In 2015, the time had finally come: Dominic won his first ATP title in Nice. This success marked a decisive step towards the top of the world rankings. It remains the only tournament of his career that he will win twice in a row.

2005-2011

2005-2011 Dominic makes a name for himself at a young age. He reached the final of the junior competition at Roland Garros and played his way up to second place in the junior world rankings in the U18 category.

1997

Dominic picked up a tennis racket for the first time in 1997. Of course, nobody could have guessed at the time that he would one day be competing for the most prestigious titles on the world’s biggest tennis courts.

1993

Dominic was born on September 3, 1993 in Wiener Neustadt, about 45 minutes from Vienna.
